Educating Tomorrow's Data Scientists

The Sept. 6 episode focused on “Educating Tomorrow’s Data Scientists” and included a lively discussion on the skills needed for those looking to get into the data science field need as well as the improvements educators need to make to help prepare the next generation. Our featured guests were Hilary Mason (@hmason), chief scientist emeritus at Bitly and current advisor to Accel Partners, Abe Padilla (@WildRunningLion), a recent graduate student who is now director of operations finance at Paramount Farms, and Richard Rodts (@rrodts), manager of global academic programs at IBM.

About our Guests:

Hilary Mason is the chief scientist emeritus at Bitly, and current advisor to Accel Partners. She is the co-founder of HackNY, co-organizer of DataGotham, and she was named on Fortune's list of "40 Under 40: Ones to Watch." 

Abe Padilla received his MBA with a double concentration in Finance and Computer Information Systems from Loyola Marymount in 2011, and then studied Predictive Analytics at Northwestern University, where he just graduated last month. He is currently Director of Operations Finance for Paramount Farms, the largest grower processor of almonds and pistachios in the world. Abe’s Twitter handle is @WildRunningLion.

Richard Rodts is the Manager of the Solution Specialist Team and manages Global Academic Programs at IBM.  He has responsibility to work with executives in education and industry to implement Predictive Analytics to drive optimal outcomes within their institutions.
