Chief Analytics Officer at Constant Contact and this week’s Big Data and Analytics Hero, Jesse Harriot believes that with big data “a complete analysis of customers’ interactions with your company will no longer be a privilege only afforded to the big and powerful.”
How have big data and analytics impacted how you do your job today?
Being able to process and analyze sets of big data has upended the entire business intelligence industry. For example, my job entails analyzing the data we accumulate from our websites and platforms to better improve product development and optimize customer retention and satisfaction. So ultimately, big data and analytics have not only impacted my job, they have become the foundation of it.
How are big data and analytics changing your business strategy?
Constant Contact’s goal is to help small businesses do more business, and we are now able to leverage our ability to mine valuable insights out of the huge amounts of data we collect regarding our customers’ interactions with their customers. The ability to share these insights is a significant component of our brand new marketing platform called the Constant Contact Toolkit. With Toolkit, we not only share these insights but we also share customized marketing recommendations based on the data.
How can big data combined with analytics improve the world we live in in 5 to 10 years?
Big data is going to help improve the world in countless ways, however I would like to pick one near and dear to my heart: small businesses. Big data is going to be one of the main tools smaller businesses use to level the playing field against bigger competitors. In the very near future, big data services available to small businesses will be as comprehensive, robust and, perhaps most importantly, affordable as the ones used today by the “big players.” This means that attaining a complete analysis of customers’ interactions with your company will no longer be a privilege only afforded to the big and powerful.
