Discover Spark innovation at IBM Insight 2015

Manager of Portfolio Strategy, IBM

Data-driven solutions are powerful—not because they access data, but because they are built on sophisticated analysis. Organizations can drive highly adaptive solutions by combining data, design and innovation with Apache Spark.

Spark is a processing framework built for speed, ease of use and sophisticated analytics that enables applications to run 100 times faster in memory and 10 times faster when running on disk. Spark also provides a unified programming model for batch, streaming, graph and machine learning data, and it enables solutions developers to easily build and embed analytics capabilities.

Spark also gives data scientists, developers and data engineers the ability to work together to access all data, build analytics models quickly, iterate rapidly in a unified programming model and deploy those analytics everywhere. It has one of the fastest growing ecosystems in the history of open source.

Presenting Spark innovation

Attendees at IBM Insight 2015 can see how IBM has transformed analytics with a new platform built on Spark. A keynote on Apache Hadoop, Spark and Streams—which takes place Tuesday, 27 October 2015, at 10:30 am PT—includes Ramona Pierson, CEO of Declara, who started her business using Spark and other open source solutions such as Hadoop.

Insight 2015 includes more than ten demonstrations, labs and Ignite talks that are focused on Spark, and ten breakout sessions are also available. IBM data scientists and some of your peers are scheduled to deliver noteworthy sessions such as the following:

  • Spark and Spark Streaming: Spark is a powerful, open source cluster-computing framework, and Spark Streaming is an extension of the core Spark application programming interface (API) that enables scalable, high-throughput, fault-tolerant stream processing of live data streams. This session provides a comprehensive overview of Spark and Spark Streaming to gain an understanding of their components and how they work.
  • Apache Spark: What’s In It for Your Business? This session offers a comprehensive overview of Spark, a general-purpose big data processing engine. Experts enumerate the benefits of incorporating Spark in the enterprise, including how it allows developers to write comprehensive, distributed applications that range from traditional data processing pipelines to complex machine learning. They also review the Spark stack, give a high-level review of core Spark APIs and show comparisons between Spark and MapReduce.
  • A New Set of Tools for a New-Generation Data Scientist: Data Scientist Workbench is a new set of tools to help data scientists, business analysts and data engineers transform data quickly to get answers rapidly. It combines the power of an integrated development environment (IDE), Jupiter notebooks and other development tools to help with data acquisition, preparation, analysis and visualization. It integrates with Spark and Hadoop for fast execution with huge data sets. Learn more about Data Scientist Workbench and how building with leading-edge open source technologies can greatly improve data scientists’ efficiency.
