Future-proof your insights for a data-driven advantage
Gone are the days when the word data conjured images of giant servers overheating in a dark room, collecting bytes of information that would never see the light of day. Now those who arrive at insights by carefully analyzing data are uncovering opportunities for their organizations—and for the 54 percent of companies that are showing double-digit growth, that has meant hiring a chief data officer (CDO).
In “Future-proof: your insights,” a webcast presented by IBM THINK Leaders, two CDOs share how to bring value to the business through data, as well as how to create internal buy-in for this vision. One of them, Mark Ramsey, CDO of GlaxoSmithKline, says: “Many organizations are now recognizing that given the importance of data and analytics to the future of the organization ... if they don’t get it right, it can make the difference between performing well in the market or really lagging.”
True value comes from a considered, multifaceted customer experience. That’s because data isn’t one-sided: As a conversation between you and your customer, it can be an invaluable resource. “Regardless of whichever channel they’re coming to,” says Derek Strauss, CDO of TD Ameritrade, customers’ relationship with a brand is informed by data, with every click allowing the brand “to understand what they’re saying to us—and what we’re saying to them.”
During the webcast—which is hosted by Cortnie Abercrombie, an emerging roles leader for IBM Analytics—both Ramsey and Strauss discuss the importance of using data and analytics to understand client behavior across every part of the business, from research and development to customer service. In addition, they share tips to help you set a data vision for your organization, as well as tactical advice you can use to position the CDO role for success.
