The Internet of Things at IBM InterConnect 2016

The past year has been one of great advancement for the Internet of Things (IoT). Industries are realizing how transformative the Internet of Things can be, and the rapid growth of its enabling technologies has been impressive. We have been extremely busy at IBM keeping stride with the following recent developments and working to catapult our clients and partners to the forefront of the Internet of Things: 

• The launch of the IBM Watson IoT business unit
• The acquisition of The Weather Company's Product and Technology Businesses
• The expansion of our platform to include The Weather Company and cognitive application programming interfaces (APIs)
• The exciting collaborations with Siemens and Airbus

Growing the Internet of Things portfolio

These electric undertakings are bolstering our Internet of Things portfolio in ways that will change how enterprises operate. Already, 2016 looks to be another year of exciting transformation in the Internet of Things space, as we see technologies such as cognitive computing, APIs and blockchain further transform what is possible.

Industry leaders will gather by the thousands at IBM InterConnect 2016, 21–25 February 2016, to discuss the way forward. We’re excited to have over 200 Internet of Things sessions at the conference that include keynotes, demos and workshops. We’re also eager to have many of the top minds in IBM, along with clients and IBM Business Partners, leading sessions aimed at helping you implement Internet of Things solutions and start gaining immediate value from them.

Spotlighting the IBM InterConnect conference

Here are some highlights demonstrating the value of the event for those of you not already planning to attend. They also showcase the can’t-miss activities for those of you who are joining us and working with or interested in the Internet of Things.

We’ll be kicking off IBM InterConnect 2016 with a Watson Internet of Things reception on Sunday afternoon, 21 February 2016, from 4:30–6 PM Pacific. We hope you’ll join us in Mandalay Ballroom A, if you’re interested in how the Internet of Things can transform your business.

We have far too many Internet of Things sessions to list, but you can browse the session preview tool to identify which sessions you want to attend and add them to your schedule. Simply choose Program > Core Curriculum and Topic > Watson IoT. I encourage you to use the session preview tool to find sessions that are most relevant to you, but at the conclusion of this posting you’ll find a list of top IBM InterConnect sessions that anyone attending shouldn’t miss. And remember that you can stop by the Watson IoT Zone and Engagement Center on the EXPO floor to talk Internet of Things with us anytime during the week.

Siemens will be taking the main stage with us during the day 1 general session to discuss our exciting collaboration. Harriet Green, former CEO at Thomas Cook Group, will talk about the innovation she is driving in her expansive new role at IBM bringing together Internet of Things, education and commerce. And we have a number of demos on the EXPO floor that showcase real-life Internet of Things applications—including a few fun ones.
