Overview of “Comparing Complex Event Processing and Stream Computing - Why Should You Care?” Talking Big Data podcast
In this “Talking Big Data” podcast, IBM's product manager of InfoSphere Streams, Roger Rea, spoke with IBM's social media lead for big data, David Pittman, on complex event processing and stream computing, and discussed whether or not these terms are interchangeable.
Rea first dives into defining the terms “complex event processing” (CEP) and “stream computing” in order to explain the use cases, similarities and differences.
Rea explains that stream computing is used in government and environmental systems while CEP is stronger in financial applications, such as cases involving stocks. In defining each term and illustrating various use cases, Rea offers guidance on the capabilities offered by stream computing and why, as it continues to grow, it is more efficient for larger volumes of data that require faster results.
