Sprint Leverages Big Data to Gain Valuable Business Insights

Sprint Nextel Corporation is among the leading telecommunications companies in the United States with over 55 million wireless customers, offering a comprehensive set of business, government and consumer services. The company has historically used traditional database modeling to analyze the tens of billions of network transactions—such as billing information and trouble tickets—it generates each day. However the sheer volume of data generated by Sprint’s myriad data sources meant most of the petabytes of information were archived and never looked at again. IBM partnered with Sprint to launch a Big Data solution to help collect, analyze and correlate hundreds of heterogeneous data streams and turn them into actionable insights.
